Please sign up with child’s full name and parent’s email.

Player Preparation Before Tryout:

  1. Register an account at lichess.org. Under your profile, select "preferences" and you can enter Kid Mode if you wish.
  2. Email player’s first name, last name, grade, teacher, lichess id, parent email, parent cell phone number, and rating if any to DeerfieldChess@gmail.com with title ‘Deerfield Chess Team Tryout - First Name Last Name’.
  3. When you have been confirmed, go to lichess.org website (not app) and go to the Community, Teams area and search for Deerfield Elementary 2020-2021. Send a message to request to join the team.

Tryout Process:

  1. Please arrive at least 10 mins ahead of time. Tournament will start at 4:30 and your child will need to "join" the tournament either through the message link they will receive on lichess or they can go through the team page when you enter Community, My Teams, Deerfield Elementary 2020-2021 and look for the tournament "Deerfield Elementary Tryouts 2020"
  2. Each player will play 5 rounds of 20-min game. It is a Swiss event with winners playing winners each round with same/similar current score. First round is likely to be random pairings unless you have a higher/lower lichess rating
  3. The top 14-16 ranked students in this tournament will be invited to join the team. Winning does not guarantee a spot, as the coach will be observing all the games and looking for the quality of play. Please try not to have your child play 4 move checkmates or have any outside help.
  4. Updates for these instructions will be sent if there are any changes.

The deadline to sign-up is 9/10/2020.

If you have any questions, please email DeerfieldChess@gmail.com.
